Come the fifth largest city with  3,000 sworn officers on the Phoenix Police Department. You will help provide world-class police service to nearly 1.5 million people.
 

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS

 

To join the Phoenix Police Department, you must:

 

  • Be at least 20 years old.

     

  • Be a United States Citizen.

     

  • Be in sound physical and mental health.

     

  • Have at least 20/20 vision uncorrected; or 20/20 vision corrected by glasses or hard contact lenses if uncorrected acuity is 20/80 or better; 20/20 vision corrected by soft contact lenses if uncorrected acuity is 20/200 or better. Vision capable of distinguishing basic color groups against a favorable background.

     

  • Have not been dishonorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces.

     

  • Have fewer than 8 driving violation points, fewer than two chargeable accidents, no convictions for DUI and no loss of license within the previous 36 months.

     

  • Meet AZ P.O.S.T. and Phoenix Police Department drug standards.

     

  • Have no commission or conviction of a felony. Misdemeanor arrests are discretionary and are reviewed on a case by case basis.

     

  • Must have good moral character and personal integrity.

     

  • Have no history of criminal or improper conduct. No poor employment or irresponsible financial history.

     

  • Have a high school diploma or GED equivalency.

     

 

AZ POST (Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training) certified officers may be eligible for lateral transfers after submitting an application and completing the physical agility exam and the Phoenix Police Department background investigation.

 

 

COMPENSATION

 

$45,094 to $63,440-annualized

 

$20.13 / hour during 18 week academy

 

 

VACATION:

 

1 to 5 Yrs of Service

 

8 Hrs Per Month = 96 Hrs Per Yr

 

 

 

6 to 10 Yrs of Service

 

10 Hrs Per Month = 120 Hrs Per Yr

 

 

11 to 15 Yrs of Service

 

11 Hrs Per Month = 132 Hrs Per Yr

 

 

16 to 20 Yrs of Service

 

13 Hrs Per Month = 152 Hrs Per Yr

 

 

21 Yrs or More

 

15 Hrs Per Month = 180 Hrs Per Yr

 

 

PERSONAL LEAVE:

 

20 hours of personal leave time each year.

 

 

HOLIDAY PAY:

 

11 paid holidays each year. If an officer's duty day is on a holiday, the officer will receive an additional 8 hours of pay for the day if it is worked.

 

 

NOTICE TO OUT OF STATE APPLICANTS:

 

The selection process involves as many as eight steps. The police department understands the burden this places on out of state applicants and will make an effort to consolidate as many steps in the process as reasonably possible. Out of state applicants may be able to complete the entire process within 3 trips to Phoenix, Arizona; at their own expense.

 

 

Applicants will be given both the written and physical agility exams on the Saturday test dates only.
